Retailer, the program that simulates managing a store (formally known as Trader), has been halted for the junior students. (Click below to read more) Everyone did very well in uploading and downloading to the office computer, something we worked hard to set up. The problem is totally outside our influence though. It looks like this year, the computer program simply has too many bugs in the code. Since we did not write the code, there is not much we can do. The company we purchased Retailer from last year asked for us to give them another chance. We spent a year giving them feedback on specific issues so as to make the game better. Lots of improvements were made, but it looks like in the end, even more issues were introduced into the code. Making the game fair while these bugs were happening seemed very difficult. The lesson here is that quality control is of up most importance. Although Retailer is fun and interesting, small issues, maybe one or two errors in thousands of lines of code, make the product unusable. Even more importantly, the customers, that is you and I, are very unhappy, and will not be back to buy in the future. |
