On my way to visit London, I found a GREAT way to visit Glasgow. Actually it was all a big accident. I had booked a flight to London on Ryanair, and I saw the airport was Glasgow. The problem was, when I arrived at six in the morning for the flight, I found I was at the wrong airport. Ryanair Flies out of another airport called Glasgow Airport (Prestwick), Click to read more about my adventure and how you can avoid my mistake and benefit with a nice morning in Glasgow.
I arranged a taxi to go the airport, I mentioned Glasgow and Ryan Air, but that did not help, as the driver didn't realize Ryanair flies out of the other airport. So, I ran around the airport trying to find Ryanair, asked some employees there and got some big laughs as they told me I was at the wrong airport and it would take at least 40 minutes to get there, which would make me too late to catch my flight. From the reactions I got, I do not think I am the first person to make this stupid mistake! Oh well, as you can see in this Google map, the Prestwick airport in on the West coast, while the Glasgow airport is inland (move the map over to the the North and East a bit to see Glasgow). Since discount airlines like Ryan are no-funds, I lost my money, but I still had to get to London! Scroll down to read how I did it.

EasyJet was the answer. They do fly out of Glasgow, and the price is not much higher than Ryanair. So I went over to the EasyJet desk, but the prices they quoted me were very high. The helpful lady there told me that it is much cheaper to book online, but she could only book me through the more expensive way. So I then had to use some of the Internet kiosks in the airport, which cost a pound for five minutes. After getting some change, from buying a coffee, I got to work. Spent two pounds on the Internet, and reserved my seat. Walked back to the EasyJet desk and got my boarding pass. The only problem: I was in the airport at seven in the morning and the plane was not leaving until two in the afternoon. It ended up that arriving early was a perfect plan (although I never planned it) because there is a bus that circles from the Glasgow airport to Glasgow and back again, all day long. The price is very reasonable, and the locations the bus stops at in the city are GREAT for having a quick look. The bus is called the GlasgowFlyer, and you can click on the image to enlarge or right click and choose Save Link As and save to your local disk. In my next post, I will review some of the sights I took in while visiting Glasgow for the morning. |
