The MBA in Retailing is unique in that it is the only MBA that caters specifically for the retail sector. It has been developed with the practising manager in mind and allows the individual to study at a time, place and pace which suits them best. The programme is modular with each subject (known as a Module) being studied separately.

A Long HistoryLaunched in 1988 the MBA in Retailing places an emphasis upon individual coaching and tuition. It has positioned itself as a quality programme that offers a unique combination of general management skills and retail specific specialisms. Unlike some MBA programmes it has a limited number of places available and attempts to keep each intake to a maximum of thirty individuals.
Objective

 The programme has the following objectives:

  • to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the industry and associated organisations;
  • to encourage individuals to use their skills more effectively in areas such as strategy, human resource management, and marketing;
  • to apply current management techniques;
  • to develop responses to cope with market turbulence;
  • to analyse problems and develop solutions on an industry-wide basis.

In order to complete the MBA an individual must complete ten taught modules and complete a dissertation. As individuals build up the number of credits passed, they qualify for more advanced academic qualifications. The qualifications offered at the University of Stirling are:

Six Modules Passed = Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration (Retailing)

Ten Modules Passed = Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration (Retailing)

Ten Modules Passed plus Dissertation = Masters of Business Administration (Retailing).
