The ProgrammeThe retail sector is a vital part of the Singapore economy. The Economic Survey Series Report published by the Department of Statistics in July 2007, showed that the retail industry comprised of about 20,000 establishments; employed more than 105,000 workers and generated over S$36.2 billion in retail sales in 2005. With the completion of the two Integrated Resorts in 2010 and increased tourism arrivals, the retail sector, is expected to grow further. "Two years full-time study leading to BA (Hons)."

NYP has collaborated with the University of Stirling (UK) to offer a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Retail Marketing under the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) Polytechnic-Foreign Specialised Institute (Poly-FSI) collaborative framework. This is to meet the growing and diverse manpower needs of the Singapore economy as well as the aspirations of polytechnic graduates by providing them with more degree upgrading options and opportunities. This NYP-Stirling Programme will enable candidates who hold a relevant Polytechnic Diploma or other suitable qualifications with articulation or advanced standing arrangement with the University, to gain direct entry into the 3rd year of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Retail Marketing which is a 4-year programme. Thus students can complete the BA (Hons) in Retail Marketing with two further years of full-time study in Singapore.

The substantial tuition subsidy from the Government of Singapore comes in the form of a tuition grant administered by MOE. Students who are Singapore citizens can apply for the MOE Tuition Grant and pay a subsidized tuition fee of $4,680 per year.

*Singapore PRs and foreign students who wish to take up tuition grant are required to fulfil a 3-year service obligation to work in Singapore upon completion of the degree programme.

Entry Requirements

Office on NYP campusThe Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Retail Marketing degree programme will be offered to all relevant diploma holders from the Polytechnics in Singapore. For admission in September 2009, the programme will be offered to business diploma graduates whose studies have comprised a significant retail management or marketing element. There is no specific grade point average required. Many factors will be considered for admission, including a letter of reference and general academic and life experience of the applicant. All applicants are screened at the University of Stirling, and once accepted are offered a place at the university, just like any student in the UK. This is the first time a retail degree is made available in Singapore and marks a major step forward for the local retail industry.
