Is this a full/part-time course?

The BA (Hons) in Retail Marketing is a full-time course taught by the University of Stirling which is highly recognised as a global "Centre of Excellence" for retailing. This is 2 year direct honours course offered by the University of Stirling in collaboration with Nanyang Polytechnic under under the Ministry of Education (MOE)'s Foreign Specialised Institute (FSI) collaborative framework. You can complete the degree with two years of full-time study in Singapore.

Who are eligible for the course?

All local Polytechnic graduands with relevant diplomas can apply to be considered for the course.

When is the commencement date for application?

Application period starts from 1st January to 31st March of every calendar year. You will be notified of the status of your application sometime in May.

How many students will there be in each cohort?

Generally, there will be about 45 students for each cohort. This small number is determined by Ministry of Education (MOE). As this is an approved programme by MOE, we need to follow the guidelines from MOE even though we may have more than 45 applications.

What exactly is the cost for this degree? As in, the EXACT amount with and without the MOE tuition grant?

The full fees charge by UoS is about S$17,000 per year. However, students need not pay this amount if they are eligible and willing to apply for tuition subsidy from Ministry of Education. The tuition fees (after subsidy) per annum for the programme, intake AY2008, are: Singapore Citizens S$4,680

Foreign * S$7,020
* Singapore PRs foreign students who wish to take up tuition grant are required to fulfil a 3-year service obligation to work in Singapore upon completion of the degree programme (terms & conditions)

Will we be doing 1 of our 4 semesters in the UK on an exchange programme basis, as mentioned in the brochure?

This is optional. Some kind of value-added services that we provide to students in this course. Going overseas on an exchange programme will also help give students an opportunity to understand life abroad and generally gives students a better competitive edge once they join the workforce.

Can I reject/ withdraw my application after UoS offered me a place?

Yes, you can still reject/ withdraw after UoS offered you a place. However, please inform us as soon as possible so that we can offer it to other applicants on the waiting list.

Are there any scholarships that students can apply?

We are pleased to inform that there are scholarship schemes which are available to candidates who wish to apply for the BA (Hons) in Retail Marketing programme. The details are shown below :

LKY-STEP Award
The LKY-STEP Award was established from donations received from Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew through the sale proceeds of autographed editions of Volume 2 of his Memoirs. The objective of the award is to encourage lifelong learning. A maximum of five awards will be offered each year to outstanding polytechnic graduates pursuing full-time undergraduate degree programmes at NTU, NUS, SMU or the Polytechnic-Foreign Specialized Institutions collaboration framework (Poly-FSI).

NTUC Fairprice Foundation Retail Management Scholarship
The NTUC Fairprice Foundation Ltd is a charity arm set up by NTUC Fairprice Co-operative Ltd.   The scholarship award is valued at S$ 10,000.

National Retail Scholarships 2009

Launched in May 2007, The National Retail Scholarship Programme is a joint-initiative by the Singapore Retailers Association (SRA), the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and SPRING Singapore, to professionalise our retail workforce, raise retail standards and maximise opportunities for Singaporeans. Through the annual scholarship, we hope to make retail a more attractive career and groom our retail workers for more challenging and strategic roles in the industry.

This scholarship is offered for the final-year undergraduates of the BA (Hons) Degree offered by the University of Stirling (UK) at Nanyang Polytechnic. Up to 5 Degree scholarships will be awarded in 2009. 

The scholarship will cover the full final year tuition fees, along with a $800 monthly stipend, up to 12 months.
